The Charity Project

Mindy Kaling is an all-out nerdy goddess! She is hilarious, girly, and a role mindy-kaling-good-housekeeping-february-2015-01model for women who appreciate good comedy. If you haven’t seen Mindy’s work, I encourage you to drop whatever plans you have tonight and watch seasons 1-7 of The Office and the entirety of The Mindy Project. You’re in for possibly the greatest night of your television life!

Mindy is not only funny, she’s also incredibly giving in more ways than one! On her birthday this past year she tweeted:

With 615 retweets, Mindy donated to several charities including Sibling Connections, a summer camp that reunites siblings in the foster care system, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and The Ronald McDonald House. Let’s face it, giving always feels better than getting!

Mindy also gives back by being a positive role model for women across the great United States, young and old. She gives no sympathy when it comes to micro-aggressions about her race, weight, and gender and also makes fun of them on her show. In an interview with Parade Magazine, Mindy says:

“There are little Indian girls out there who look up to me, and I never want to belittle the honor of being an inspiration to them. But while I’m talking about why I’m so different, white male show runners get to talk about their art. I always get asked, ‘Where do you get your confidence?’ I think people are well meaning, but it’s pretty insulting. Because what it means to me is, ‘You, Mindy Kaling, have all the trappings of a very marginalized person. You’re not skinny, you’re not white, you’re a woman. Why on earth would you feel like you’re worth anything?’”

Thanks, Mindy, for being a much-needed confidence booster and philanthropist. Your work is lively and your words are powerful. Keep being flawless!
