Assaulting Assault

mariska-hargitay_612x380_0Mariska Hargitay: Actor. Activist. Lover of the Hashtag. If you can’t place this half-Hungarian princess, you’ve probably seen her in a chilling yet captivating episode of Law & Order, SVU. She’s bold, brilliant, and has carried the show as Olivia Benson for 17 seasons!

On top of her crime fighting, maternally-inclined role as Olivia Benson, Mariska is a strong advocate for the fight against domestic violence. In 2004, she founded the Joyful Heart Foundation, an organization working to heal, educate, and empower survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse. With 42.3K followers on Twitter (@TheJHF) and 11.2K followers on Instagram, the JHF creates waves of conversation and attention to this worthy cause!

If you don’t recognize “the Joyful Heart,” you may recognize their “No More” campaign adopted by the NFL. On February 1, 2015, millions of Americans were left speechless after a 30 second PSA (based off a true 911 call) during the second quarter of the Super Bowl.

This commercial made international news and started conversations around the world about ending domestic violence, all thanks to the Joyful Heart Foundation and the NFL. Anyone can join the movement by visiting joyfulheartfoundation.org. Thank you Mariska for being a warrior and voice for thousands of people who can’t speak for themselves! Together, we can end domestic violence and assault!

  1. I have always been a huge fan of Mariska Hargitay. Not only because I am a die hard fan of SVU but because I highly respect the way she uses her fame to support causes such as this. This commercial speaks and is targeted to those thousands of people who can’t speak for themselves and I have so much admiration for Mariska for being that voice for them.

  2. The awareness of this horrible issue has greatly increased over the past few years, but there is still much work to do. Partnering with the NFL and other widely influential networks is a great idea. Catering to other audiences in other forms of media can also be extremely beneficial. Much respect to Olivia Benson
